ADDITIONAL PICTURES & INFORMATION SOUGHT FOR THE WEBSITE

Do you have historical information on the Douay Bible and/or on the many characters that have played a part in its history? If you can provide relevant information or photographs, or can direct me where to find them, they will be added to the site with proper credit. I am especially seeking photos of, or information about, the following:

  1. The plaque that has been erected at the site of the old English College of Douay.

  2. The gravesite of Father Gregory Martin (Rheims).

  3. A portrait of Thomas Worthington (does one exist?)

  4. The location of Douay College while at Rheims: Is the exact location known? Is there anything still at that location?

  5. The gravesites of the Haydock brothers: George Leo (Penrith?) and Thomas (?)

  6. The plaque honoring Father George Leo Haydock that was once at his church in Penrith.

  7. The portrait of Father George Leo Haydock that Gillow refers to in his biographical sketch. (I have already inquired at several institutions associated with Haydock with no success.)

  8. Crook Hall: does it still exist?

  9. Mowbreck Hall: does it still exist? ANSWERED! Regrettably, Mowbreck Hall, where Father George Leo Haydock was tutored as a child was gutted by a fire recently and is no longer standing. A new house has been built on the site. Thanks to Sheila Helms of nearby Holiday Home Park for this information.

  10. Lane End House at Mawdsley: does it still exist? ANSWERED! Yes, the house where portraits of the Haydock family once hung and where Father Cuthbert Haydock once said Masses for Catholic Recusants in a secret chapel still exists and can be seen in a walking tour of the area. See the website: http://www.mawdesley-village.org.uk/walksappendix.html

  11. A portrait of Bishop John Geddes (does one exist?) FOUND! Portrait located and added to the "History of the Douay Bible" slide show. Thanks to Don Mongeau of South Hadley Massachusetts.

  12. A portrait of Father Robert Worstwick. (does one exist?)

  13. A portrait of Father Bernard MacMahon (does one exist?)

  14. Copies of the original editions of the Rheims New Testament or Douay Old Testament that have definitive provenance from Martin, Allen, Worthington, or any other prominent Douay figures: (are there any?)

Please use the e-mail link on the homepage if you have information . I also welcome your feedback about the site. Thanks!
